A man has been freed from custody after being arrested in connection with stabbing yesterday that left a woman in a critical condition in a Kerry hospital.

Gardaí were called to a house on Dromin Green in Listowel yesterday evening where they found the woman (38) with a serious wound.

She was taken to Tralee General Hospital where she is said to be in a critical but stable condition.

A man (32) was arrested at the scene and taken to Listowel Garda station for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He has since been freed without charge. A Garda spokesman said a file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
