Man questioned over Limerick stabbing released

Gardaí in Limerick have released a man arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city

Gardaí in Limerick have released a man arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city. A file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The victim was named this afternoon as 42-year-old Mr James Kelly of Kennedy Park. His body was found at the corner of Chestnut Grove and Kennedy Park at 12.50 a.m. He had been stabbed twice.

He was taken to Limerick General Hospital, where he died at 1.30 a.m.

A full murder investigation was then launched.

The suspect, aged 23, was arrested this morning and held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene of the attack has been preserved and the State pathologist is to carry out a post mortem later today.
