A man assaulted a woman garda called to a domestic dispute, Swords District Court heard yesterday. Patrick Lonegan (54), of St Laurence's Road, Clontarf, pleaded guilty to assaulting Garda Cathy Sheehan in Raheny on January 17th, 1996. He struck her in the face with a mirror, kicked her several times on the shin, and between her legs.

Lonegan also admitted assaulting a male garda who was trying to arrest him.

Lonegan had been punched in the mouth by his 31 year old son. He became agitated when he saw his face in the mirror and turned on gardai when they arrived.

Judge William Early remanded him to December 3rd, and said that if he paid £100 to the Garda Benevolent Fund he would consider a suspended sentence.
