A Co Tyrone man was remanded in custody at Cookstown Magistrates Court yesterday charged with having articles for use in damaging a road surface.

The court was told that Mr Keith Newell (22), a butcher, of Milburn Close, Cookstown, was seen by the police with two containers of petrol at Lissan Road, in the town, the previous night.

Newell also faces charges of disorderly behaviour and obstructing an RUC officer. Defence solicitor, Mr Kieran Toal, said a bail application would be made in the High Court next week.
