A 21-year-old man has been remanded in custody today at Dublin District Court in connection with the stabbing of Christopher Doyle (29) in Ballymun on Halloween night last.

Mr Gavin Ward of Balcurris Road, Ballymun was charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Doyle.

The court heard Mr Ward reply following his arrest yesterday: "I am very sorry, I wish I would be able to turn back the time."

Mr Doyle died in the Mater Hospital six days after being stabbed by a gang he had confronted when they tried to steal a neighbour's car.

Judge Cormac Dunne heard there was no application for bail and he remanded Mr Ward in custody to appear in Cloverhill District Court on November 24.
