A man (18) has appeared in court this morning in connection with the death of a man whose body was discovered in Sallynoggin, south county Dublin, last weekend.
Mr Mark Bissett of Loughlinstown Park, Loughlinstown was charged with assault causing harm to his uncle, widower Mr David Sutherland (54).
Mr Bisset was arrested in Loughlinstown on Sunday, and charged at Dún Laoghaire Garda Station yesterday evening under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.
In Dublin District Court, Detective Sergeant James Martin told the court Mr Bissett was charged yesterday. In reply, he said: "Sorry, I didn't mean it."
The detective applied for a remand in custody because there were three warrants out for his arrest. He also asked that the name on the charge sheet be amended from Mark Haines to Mark Bissett. He also goes by the name of Bissett-Haines.
Judge Sean MacBride remanded Mr Bisset in custody to appear in Cloverhill District Court on December 30th. He granted him free legal aid after hearing he had a job selling papers but was now unemployed.
Mr Sutherland's body was found in a laneway at about 1.40 a.m. on Saturday at Pearse Gardens in Sallynoggin. A post-mortem confirmed he suffered severe head injuries.
He was originally from O'Rourke Park in Sallynoggin, near where his body was found but had an address at Sheelin Park, Ballybrack, for a number of years, although he has been described as homeless.
Four others held for questioning over the murder have been released, and files are being prepared for the DPP. The four men had been questioned at Dún Laoghaire and Blackrock Garda Stations.
