A man arrested during a €3.5 million cannabis and cocaine seizure in Dublin last weekend has been remanded in custody.
Anthony McEnroe (20) of Slievemore Road, Drimnagh, appeared in Kilmainham District Court this morning following his arrest on Saturday morning at JFK Parade off the Naas Road.
Garda officers told the court the accused was held at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drugs Trafficking Act, and that he was charged yesterday on two counts of possession, two counts of possession with intent to supply and a firearms charge.
Gardaí objected to an application for bail because of the seriousness of the charge, the gravity of the evidence against the accused and the sentence liable to be imposed in the case.
The court heard Mr McEnroe had purchased tickets for a flight to Spain departing on Wednesday and that gardaí did not have his passport.
Solicitor for the accused Brian McKenzie, solicitor for Mr McEnroe, insisted the flight tickets were for a family holiday and that the defendant was due to leave Ireland on Saturday.
Mr McKenzie said his client had no previous convictions, no bench warrants against him and was entitled to a presumption of innocence. He accepted the seriousness of the charge but asked for bail, vowing to hand over the accused's passport.
Judge Patrick McMahon refused the application for bail and remanded Mr McEnroe in custody to appear again before Cloverhill District Court on Friday, July 6th.
