A 43-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court in connection with the death of a woman in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath yesterday.

The man, who was arrested yesterday after the discovery of the woman's body at  Maelduin in the village, appeared at a special sitting of Navan District Court.

He was charged with assaulting Ms Colleen Mulder, a 41-year-old mother of six under Section Three of the Non-fatal Offence Against the Person Act.

Mr Mulder was remanded in custody to appear at Dunshaughlin District Court next week.

Gardaí examined the scene yesterday evening and cordoned off the area.

The alarm was raised by a local doctor who was called to the house to attend to her. The results of a post-mortem on the body have not yet been released.
