The man charged in connection with an incident in Cavan during which a hotel-worker was knocked down by a car and killed has been remanded in custody.

Mr Michael Cavanagh (38) of Fort Lawn Park, Blanchardstown, was remanded in custody by Judge Flann Brennan until March 5th.

Gardaí objected to bail at the hearing in Ardee District Court where Mr Cavanagh was charged with intentionally and recklessly driving a car in a dangerous manner likely to endanger life.

The victim, Hugh O'Brien, was knocked down outside the Carrick Springs Hotel, Crosskeys, Co Cavan, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Mr O'Brien, a soldier in his thirties and a part-time bouncer atthe hotel, was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
