A 34-year-old South African has been remanded in custody following the discovery of cocaine with an estimated street value of €75,000 in Kilkenny city.

The drugs were discovered by gardaí and customs officers on Friday morning during a planned search of a house on the Castlecomer Road in the city.

As well as a possession charge, Mr Boyd Griffiths, with an address at Castlecomer Road, Kilkenny, was also charged at a special sitting of Thomastown District Court last night with having the drug with intent to supply others.

He was remanded in custody until Tuesday when he is due before Kilkenny District Court.
