A 29-year-old man has been remanded in custody following his court appearance in relation to the murder of a father who was shot dead in front of his partner and young son in Dublin three years ago.
Seamus “Shay” O’Byrne (27) was shot his driveway at Tymon Park North in Tallaght on the evening of March 13th, 2009.
Eugene Cullen from Derry Road, Crumlin, Dublin, was arrested yesterday when he arrived in Ireland following his extradition from the Netherlands.
Detective Garda Colin Rochford told Judge Bryan Smyth at Dublin District Court today that a warrant for his arrest had been issued in March.
Mr Cullen was brought to Tallaght Garda station where he was charged yesterday evening with the murder of Mr O’Byrne.
“In reply to the charge he had nothing to say and was handed a true copy of the charge,” Det Gda Rochford said before he asked the court to remand Mr Cullen in custody for one week.
Defence solicitor Michael Hennessy consented and Judge Smyth remanded Mr Cullen in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on August 7th next.
Legal aid was granted to Mr Cullen, who has not yet indicated how he will plead to the charge, after the court was told that he had no income.
