A man has appeared in court charged in connection with a post office robbery in Dublin in which an off-duty garda was slashed with a knife.

Jason Campbell (25), of Birchwood Heights, Tallaght, Dublin, was charged with robbing Glenview Post Office in Tallaght yesterday afternoon.

It was alleged Mr Campbell held a post office customer at knife-point and demanded money from the cashier.

He was tackled by two off-duty gardaí, one of whom was in the post office and the other in a premises next door.

During the struggle, it was alleged that one of the officers was injured with the knife.

The money stolen during the robbery, an estimated €5,000, was recovered.

Mr Campbell was refused bail and was remanded in custody to reappear in Cloverhill District Court on April 19th.
