The trial has begun of a man accused of murder in Co Wicklow three years ago.
Michael Dickenson (27), Darragh Park, Wicklow town, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Stephen O’Meara at Ballydonnell Wood, Redcross, Co Wicklow, on or about August 6th, 2009.
The body of Mr O’Meara (26), a father of three from Rosehill in Wicklow town, was was found in a shallow grave on Christmas Eve 2009, in an isolated wooded area at Ballydonnell, Redcross, five months after he disappeared.
Opening the trial, Denis Vaughan Buckley SC, prosecuting, told the jury it was the prosecution’s case that Mr Dickenson drove Mr O’Meara out to the remote Ballydonnell Wood, where he was shot by another man.
That man then helped Mr Dickenson drag the body into a very shallow grave.
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar confirmed that Mr O’Meara had suffered internal bleeding caused by gunshot wounds to the trunk and lower leg.
The trial resumes today.
