Gardaí in Carlow are investigating a serious assault in the town early this morning.
A man (30) suffered serious head injuries in the incident, which happened at 3am at College Street.
The victim has been taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, and the scene has been preserved for examination.
Gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry.
