A man was seriously injured today after raiders broke into his home and beat him with a baseball bat.

The three male intruders broke into the man's house in Dunclug Park in Ballymena at 7am.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said one of them picked up a baseball bat which was already in the house. "He hit the victim a number of times about the head and body."

The man suffered lacerations to his head and a suspected fractured left arm. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The raiders stole three mobile phones, a black fender electric guitar, a video recorder and a CD player.

The PSNI appealed to any witnesses who saw suspicious activity around the Dunclug Park area to contact detectives in Ballymena.

Elsewhere a teenager was stabbed during a mobile phone robbery in North Belfast today.

Two men held up the teenager at knifepoint at around 1.45am and stabbed him, before robbing him of his mobile phone in the Carrick Hill area.

He was taken to hospital, where his injuries were not said to be life threatening.

The men also stole phones from two other friends of the teenager.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said two men were arrested at the scene and brought for questioning. Three mobile phones and two knives were recovered.
