A man was shot and killed tonight when police opened fire on a car which struck officers after failing to stop in Co Antrim.
A second man was injured in the shooting which happened at Crumlin Road, Ballinderry Upper, near Lisburn.
At least two police officers were struck by the car which had been seen driving suspiciously.
A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said shots were then discharged by police and the two men were injured, one of them critically.
He later died after being taken to the Lagan Valley Hospital in Lisburn, medical sources said. The condition of the other man was not known.
The Office of Ombudsman Ms Nuala O'Loan is to carry out an investigation.
It is understood that the dead man was in his mid 20s.
The second man is currently being treated for gunshot wounds to his arm at Craigavon Area Hospital in Co Armagh. His condition is described as stable.
