A man wounded in last week's INLA feud shooting in which Hugh Torney was killed was refused bail in the High Court in Belfast yesterday.

Mr Liam McAnoy (22), from Leeson Street, Falls Road, Belfast, who is under armed guard in hospital, is charged with possessing two guns recovered after the shooting at Victoria Street, Lurgan.

A Crown lawyer said it was feared that Mr McAnoy, who was shot in the stomach, might abscond and commit further offences. The lawyer alleged that the defendant had fired at the attackers and was then seen to throw the gun away before police arrived. The second weapon was found on Mr Torney's body.

Mr John Cushinan, defending, said Mr McAnoy denied being a member of the INLA and also claimed that a gun he was alleged to have fired was, in fact, the weapon used by one of the men who tried to kill him.
