Man stabbed in Limerick city flat

A 23-year-old man was recovering in hospital last night after a stabbing in Limerick city early yesterday morning.

A 23-year-old man was recovering in hospital last night after a stabbing in Limerick city early yesterday morning.

The man was attacked in a flat in Upper William Street shortly before 2 a.m.

It's understood a number of people entered the flat and the man was stabbed with a knife in his hands and upper body.

The victim - who is originally from the Moyross area of the city - was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital.

His condition was described last night as "comfortable".

Gardaí from Roxboro Garda station interviewed a number of people yesterday about the incident and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

The motive for the attack is unknown however it's believed the stabbing is not linked to any ongoing feud in the city.

"A number of people who were not welcome in the flat entered the building and the victim received a few minor stab wounds," said a Garda spokesman.

"We have spoken to a number of people about the incident and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions," he added.

The scene of the early morning attack in the city was sealed off yesterday for technical examination.
