Gardaí are searching for two men after a man was stabbed several times in front of his 14-year-old daughter in Leixlip, Co Kildare, this morning.
John Murphy, who is in his forties and works in the building trade, was taken to hospital after being attacked by two men, wearing hoodies, at his house at Ryevale Lawns at 9am.
He has been taken to Blanchardstown Hospital where his condition is described as serious, but not life threatening.
A garda spokeswoman said: "It was suggested by someone at the scene two men were involved. Gardai will know more when they talk to the man but he is not well enough yet."
A garda spokeswoman said officers were still trying to establish a motive for the attack and it was as yet uncertain if a row had occurred before the man was stabbed.
The two men are believed to have fled from the scene in a waiting vehicle.
The area outside the house has been sealed off for technical examination by gardaí.
Officers, who are also speaking to neighbours and people in the area, are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.
