Man sues for share of €1.57m Lotto jackpot

A man who claims he is entitled to a one-fifth share of a Lotto jackpot of €1

A man who claims he is entitled to a one-fifth share of a Lotto jackpot of €1.57 million has taken High Court proceedings against four people who claim they won the entire prize.

The action by Mr Martin Horan, a plant hire operator, over ownership of the Lotto prize of January 6th, 2001 is set for hearing on November 30th.

Yesterday Mr Justice Kelly rejected an application by Mr Horan aimed at having the defendants provide further particulars of any agreements regarding the Lotto winnings.

The defendants claim Mr Horan did not pay the contributions weekly and allowed arrears to accumulate.

When he failed to pay the contributions weekly and failed to pay the arrears, they became a syndicate with four shareholders, the defendants claim.

Mr Horan, of Carragowan, Bohola, Castlebar, Co Mayo, has taken the proceedings against Mr Frank O'Reilly, a publican, of O'Reilly Pub, Ballyvary, Castlebar; Mr Michael McHale, a farmer, of Currane, Ballyvary; Mr John Joyce, a taxi-driver, of Keelogue, Ballyvary; Mr Seamus O'Brien, also a taxi-driver, of Ballyvary; and An Post National Lottery Company Limited.
