While the sun may go down on Galway Bay, at least one local man is hoping he stays well on top of it as he peddles furiously across the water from Kinvara to Salthill.
As unlikely as it may sound, Mr Pat McGlynn from Knocknacarra, plans to ride across the bay on a specially designed cycle pontoon in aid of charity.
The never before attempted cycle takes place on September 7th and will go from the headland at Kinvara in Co Clare to the Ladies Beach in Salthill - a distance of 10km.
He expects to complete the trip in two to three hours.
Mr McGlynn, who is in his mid-thirties, is completing the cycle in order to raise the awareness of arthritis as a life altering disease.
Mr McGlynn was crippled with Arthritis a year ago but since he underwent a hip operation last year he has been able to resume the active lifestyle he once enjoyed.
A keen cyclist, he recently completed the Round the Corrib Cycle Race - a distance of 80km.
All money raised will go to the Galway Branch of The Arthritis Foundation.
