A man in his twenties was in a critical condition in hospital last night after he had petrol thrown over him and was set alight during a row at a house on the north side of Dublin.
He suffered third degree burns over 50 per cent of his body and is being treated at St James's Hospital.
A man in his forties, who is believed to be a member of the travelling community, was being questioned at Coolock Garda Station in connection with the incident.
The incident happened at 3 p.m. at an address in Glin Road, Coolock, where four men are believed to have been drinking heavily. A row broke out during which a man in his twenties had petrol thrown over him and was then set alight.
He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital, but was later transferred to the burns unit in St James's, where he was described as being "critically ill".
Three men were questioned by gardai at Coolock, two of whom were later released. The other man, aged in his forties, was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and his period of detention extended last night for a further six hours.
