A man has been arrested I were last night trying to identify in connection with the finding of the body of a woman in the woods in the Dublin Mountains at Killakee near Rathfarnham. She is believed to have been strangled. The man is being held in Rathfarnham Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The naked body was found about 25 yards from a small car park at the entrance to a wooded area near the Hellfire Club. It was partially covered with branches and leaves. It is believed it was there for about two days. i with their inquiries. Gardai have yet to identify the woman.

The body was found at 1.30 p.m. and the scene was immediately sealed off and examined by members of the Technical Bureau. The deputy State pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, carried out the post-mortem.

Supt Tom Conway, who is in charge of the investigation, said they were treating the death as "suspicious". They had been in touch with the missing persons bureau. It is understood that the search was instigated after a call to Rathfarnham Garda station at about 12.30 p.m.

Supt Conway confirmed the woman was in her 30s and had been found by the gardai and not a member of the public. "The body was not covered and it appeared from our initial examination that it looks as though efforts were made to conceal it."

The woods are mainly used at weekends as an amenity area. They are easily accessible from the main mountain road.
