A tyre-fitter died from internal bleeding when a tyre he was inflating exploded, an inquest was told yesterday. The Galway West coroner, Dr Ciaran MacLoughlin, recommended that people working in the tyre-fitting business should adopt the correct safety procedures to avoid a similar accident. The Health and Safety Authority recommends that all punctured tyres be placed in a cage and inflated gradually. The inquest into the death of Owen Sheppard (46), Shantalla, Galway, heard he was an experienced tyre-fitter who had been working on the morning of his death, February 22nd last year, at Kevin Burke Tyres Ltd, Galway.
