A Dublin man accused of having explosives admitted to gardai he was on Howth pier when bags were unloaded, the Special Criminal Court heard yesterday.

Det Sgt Michael O'Leary said Mr Michael Blount, from Balbriggan, admitted: "I was there, that's as far as it goes." Gardai found 33 bags of fertiliser at a disused fish shop in Howth and a house in Co Meath. The prosecution has claimed the fertiliser was intended for making explosives.

Mr Eamonn Flanagan (43), from Co Tyrone, of The Square, Skerries; Mr Seamus McLoughlin (67), of Balkill Park, Howth; and Mr Blount (49) of Bath Road, Balbriggan, have pleaded not guilty to having an explosive substance on January 5th last year.

Mr Joseph Dillon (53) from Skerries, PRO for the 32-County Sovereignty Movement, of Greenlawns, Skerries, has pleaded not guilty to having an explosive substance at Bettys town, Co Meath, on January 5th last year.
