A security operative who made 865 vulgar, abusive and threatening phone calls to ex-colleagues has had his sentence adjourned by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Mark Kivlehan (23), Grove Road, Finglas, pleaded guilty to four counts of harassment of victims on dates from July 2003 to October 2004.
Judge Desmond Hogan said it was a "terribly serious offence" to make "unasked for, vulgar, abusive and threatening phone calls" and said the fact that the calls were being made from someone unseen and unidentifiable added a sinister dimension to the crime.
He remanded Kivlehan on bail to allow for the preparation of probation and community service reports.
Detective Garda Dominic McGrath told Vincent Heneghan BL that Kivlehan made threats of raping the wives and children of employees of Top Security, in Clonshaugh industrial estate.
He also contacted another company regularly, claiming he was phoning from India and always opening his remarks by saying: "I want to s**t on your desk."
Det Garda McGrath said the Top Security victims got the calls from an unidentified number to both their mobile phones and the business line.
John Manning once received a call from Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, where Kivlehan was on holidays at the time. He got two to three calls per day from Kivlehan, who referred to him by name and threatened he would rape both his wife and his son.
Jim Padden got six or eight calls a day with threats Kivlehan would rape his wife and his daughter, who had cerebral palsy, and that he would "kick the s**t out of him and his son".
Det Garda McGrath said Kivlehan rang the office once claiming Mr Padden would not be in work because his daughter was missing. This caused great stress and concern to Mr Padden because of his daughter's disability.
