A father of three who suffered severe burns when he set himself on fire in a solicitor's office in Skibbereen, Co Cork on Monday has died.
Mr John Harnedy (44), from Rineen, Castlehaven, near Skibbereen, died at Cork University Hospital yesterday.
He suffered burns when he set fire to petrol that he had poured over himself in the reception area of Wolfe and Co, a solicitor's firm in Skibbereen.
He walked into the office and after a short conversation with staff set himself alight.
Staff members extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher, and medics removed him to the burns unit of Cork University Hospital.
However, his condition deteriorated and he died.
Mr Harnedy was born in Castlehaven and studied in Limerick before going to live in the UK and Malaysia.
He returned to west Cork three years ago with his wife, two sons and one daughter.
The removal takes place today from Cork University Hospital at 6 p.m. to St Barranhane's Church, Castlehaven.
Burial will be tomorrow after requiem Mass.
