A man who escaped from Garda custody at the weekend has appeared in court in connection with a incident involving a stolen car in which two people were seriously injured.
Mr Thomas Moran (23), O'Malley Park, Southill, appeared yesterday before a special sitting of Limerick District court. He was charged with stealing a car on May 17th and with driving without a licence or insurance on the same date.
The court heard that when cautioned by gardaí in relation to the charge of stealing the car, Mr Moran replied: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt anyone."
He also faced a separate charge of escaping from lawful custody on May 18th.
It is understood that Mr Moran escaped from custody at Roxboro Road Garda station early yesterday, but he was later re-arrested. Judge Tom O'Donnell remanded him in custody to next Wednesday.
A 21-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were being treated at Limerick Regional Hospital last night.
