Two people were killed last night and seven injured - three of them children - in a two-car head-on collision five miles north of Arklow. A Dublin woman in her 40s and an Italian tourist in his 20s died in the crash which happened on the N11 shortly before 6 p.m. The woman's husband and three children, and three other Italians, were taken to St Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown where the condition of all seven was described as stable.
The woman and her family had been travelling towards Dublin in a Mercedes which collided with a Fiat Punto heading south. Both of those killed were passengers in their respective cars.
The crash happened at Clonpadden, near Scratnagh Cross, where Senator Michael Enright from Wexford and three other people were killed in a two-car crash last year.
A Garda spokesman said the cause of the crash, which happened in daylight in good road conditions, was being investigated.
