A 53-year-old Dublin man has admitted killing mother-of-one Helen Donegan (30) last year.
Bernard Curran, The Weir, Lucan, was brought before the Central Criminal Court yesterday charged with murdering the Dublin woman.
After consulting his legal team, he pleaded not guilty to her murder on a date unknown between May 4th and June 22nd, 2010, at a location in the State. He did plead guilty to the manslaughter of the Ballyfermot native, who had been living in Celbridge, Co Kildare. Brendan Grehan SC, prosecuting, said this was acceptable to the State.
Michael O’Higgins SC, defending, said in the aftermath of the event his client had given information to gardaí that was untrue and highly misleading. He said the defendant wanted to apologise for the upset this caused Ms Donegan’s family.
Mr O’Higgins said his client was suicidal at the time and was receiving treatment in prison. Mr Justice Paul Carney remanded Curran in custody for sentencing on February 20th next.
