A Kilkenny man who was cleared of murdering his wife after he beat her to death with a car jack has had his sentence date put back to next year. In the Central Criminal Court, Mr Justice Finnegan told Patrick Hennessy (37), of Callan, he must wait until February 20th for sentencing, because a probation report has not yet been prepared in his case.

In October, a jury acquitted Hennessy of murder but convicted him of the manslaughter of his wife, Marie, who died two days after he attacked her on the side of the road near Callan on May 10th, 1999.
