THOUSANDS OF members of the Royal Black Institution rallied at six venues across Northern Ireland on their traditional “Last Saturday” in August demonstrations. The marches mark the traditional end of the parades season.
The largest was staged at Comber in Co Down, where up to 10,000 took part or watched the “Sir Knights” of the institutions and a host of bands in their traditional parade.
Speeches at rallies emphasised the importance of the British link and the value of the monarchy.
Sovereign grand master Millar Farr told the rally at Killylea, Co Armagh, the British Christian ethos was under attack.
“Look at the current legislation relating to sex education in schools, abortion, same-sex marriages or civil partnership, and embryonic stem cell research,” he said.
