Maritime festival promises to be a big splash

Dublin Docklands Maritime Festival is taking place this Bank Holiday weekend at North Wall Quay.

Dublin Docklands Maritime Festival is taking place this Bank Holiday weekend at North Wall Quay.

It began yesterday, and continues until Monday. The programme includes the tall ship tours, the Continental market and Docklands farmers' market, Cows Lane fashion market, an art exhibition on the Campshires and a sea safari around Dublin Bay.

Dublin Docklands has been organising this event for the last nine months, and hopes to draw thousands of people a day, said its spokeswomen, Ms Loretta Lambkin.

As part of the tall ship tours, the 1790 replica tall ship the Grand Turk, along with the Asgard II, the Jeanie Johnson, the Kathleen & May and the Lord Rank, will be open to the public for tours.

There will be be over 20 stalls as part of the Continental market and Docklands farmers' market. This will be open from today at North Wall Quay and Excise Walk. Cows Lane fashion market features jewellery and dress designs, beginning on Sunday. The art exhibition on the Campshires features 16 artists.

A boat travels around Dublin Bay in the sea safari. The trips take place from Custom House Quay.
