The ISEQ index was down some 36 points at 6,372.22 near the close for trading today. The fate of the main financials was mixed with AIB closing the day up 6 cents at euro 12.90 after being down some 26 cents earlier on.
Bank of Ireland was down 6 cents at 11.29 while Irish Life and Permanent was down 5 cents at euro 13.15.
As another Eircom deadline came and went this afternoon the company’s share price remained relatively flat, 2 cents down at euro 1.28. The Eircom board meets tonight to consider the takeover proposals.
Elan Corporation was at euro 67.30 late this afternoon, down 2.33 on the day. Galen holdings was also down some 35 cents to euro 14.75.
After posting positive interim results the healthcare products group, United Drug, rose 15 cents to euro 12.15.
Ryanair was down 26 cents at euro 12.82 while the Smurfit group rose 11 cents to euro 2.35.
