This weekend promises match-making big and small with Kerry meeting Meath at Croke Park and Lisdoonvarna festival-goers seeking love
Some 55,000 GAA fans are expected to flock to Croke Park for Kerry's clash with Meath in the football semi-final on Sunday at 3.30pm, with Mayo facing Down in the minor game at 1.30pm.
Met Éireann is forecasting an overcast day that will brighten briefly in the afternoon.
Elsewhere, the famous Lisdoonvarna Match-Making Festival starts today. Thousands of single men and women are expected to attend the festival in Co Clare, before its end in early October.
Traditionally, the matchmakers of old knew all the farmers who had eligible sons and daughters and invited them to Lisdoonvarna to meet, collecting the generous dowries when successful matches were made.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's Festival of World Cultures is also on this weekend.
A variety of events ranging from an African hair-braiding workshop to a demonstration of the Japanese martial art, Aikido, will take place in various venues around the area. Most of the demonstrations are open to the public, although some require prior booking.
Heritage Week continues in various locations throughout the country, with events organised to promote awareness of built, national and cultural heritage.
In Kerry, there will be a guided tour tomorrow of The Iveragh Peninsula exploring the habitats of the native birds begins at noon. An event for photography enthusiasts takes place tomorrow in the Raven Wood Nature Reserve Wildlife Walk in Wexford.
On Sunday an 18th-century-themed family fair, complete with fancy dress and face painting, will be held at Portumna Castle in Co Galway. It starts at 2pm.
Work from Limerick-born artist Kate Byrne will be shown in the west Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen. The exhibit opens tomorrow afternoon and includes video, photographic installations and drawings.
Elsewhere, admission is free to all screenings during the Knock Film Festival in Knock Museum. Early films based on the local area between 1936 and 1979 will be shown over the weekend.
