Peter Mathews continued his spectacular form of recent weeks when he broke the course record and led his country to victory in today's BUPA Ireland Road race in Loughrea.

Mathews clocked 23 minutes 14 seconds ahead of England's Ben Noad (23mins 20secs) with Seamus Power (23.25) finishing third to make it a great day for Ireland.

Defending champion John Mayock, the Englishman who set the previous course record a year ago, saw his hopes of a fast finish fade when Welshman Mark Morgan deliberately set a quick early pace over the first two miles.
