Horse racing:Noel Meade's golden run of form continued as Mattock Ranger won the paddypower.com Cork Grand National.
Despite not having had a race for 210 days, the seven-year-old appeared to improve greatly for the application of first-time blinkers and the step up to three and a half miles.
As well as the winner, Meade also trained the third home Back To Bid, but thankfully for stable jockey Paul Carberry, he picked the right one.
The 6-1 shot took up the running inside the final mile and appeared to have all his rivals in trouble before Aka Jake threw down a huge challenge after the last.
The seven-year-old dug deep though to land the spoils by a short-head, with a further 23 lengths back to his stablemate in third.
It capped a memorable day for Meade, who also saddled the first and third in the November Handicap at Leopardstown.
"I'm delighted that he's back to form," said Meade.
"He jumped great today. He won early last season but then lost his way — hopefully he can hold his form now he's older.
"He'll maybe go for the Troytown next (Navan, November 25) and possibly even the Welsh National. We'll be looking at similar races for Back To Bid."
Liskennett landed a sizeable gamble for Charles Byrnes in the Dial-A-Bet 1800 721 821 EBF Novice Hurdle.
Third behind the smart Rinroe on her hurdles debut only last week, she was ridden with great confidence by Niall 'Slippers' Madden to reward some hefty bets.
An opening price of 9-1 soon disappeared and the four-year-old returned at 9-2, beating 2-1 favourite Major Finnegan by three-quarters of a length.
The former John Gosden-trained Signatory travelled well for most of the race but was short of room two out and finished fast to take third for Meade.
