Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty has launched strong attack on proposals by the two main political parties in Donegal to increase the number of holiday homes in the county by another 50 per cent.
At a "workshop" last week on the review of the current Co Donegal Development Plan, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael councillors called for an increase in the holiday home quota to 30 per cent.
However, at another in committee meeting yesterday the county mayor Cllr John Boyle (FG) issued a statement denying that a deal had been done.
The statement read: "Following a workshop meeting today, all members have agreed that while it may be the position of individual councillors to support the increase in the threshold for holiday homes in any given village or townland from 20 per cent to 30 per cent, no political party has endorsed this position.
" . . . it is envisaged that proposed changes to the plan will be published in early 2008."
Any proposed changes will be subject to public consultation, the statement read.
