Maze prisoner fights move to transfer him

One of the last Republican prisoners in the Maze is fighting a decision to transfer him because he fears he could be killed. Martin Corden (40), from Lurgan, Co Armagh, is seeking a judicial review of the transfer due to take effect on September 30th. His case was due to be heard in the High Court in Belfast yesterday but was adjourned until August 31st to give lawyers time to file further affidavits.

Only 14 prisoners remain in the Maze following the recent mass releases under the Belfast Agreement. The Prison Service plans to transfer 11 of the remaining inmates to nearby Maghaberry prison. That would leave just three prisoners in the Maze: INLA men Christopher McWilliams, John Kennaway and John Glennon, who murdered LVF leader Billy Wright inside the Maze in 1997.
