McAleese to pay tribute to NZ Irish

President Mary McAleese continues her visit to New Zealand today by paying tribute to Irish immigrants.

President Mary McAleese continues her visit to New Zealand today by paying tribute to Irish immigrants.

Mrs McAleese is leading a 41-member business and tourism delegation that Minister for Education Mary Hanafin to New Zealand.

The president will be briefed in Wellington on New Zealand's environment policies by Conservation Minister Chris Carter.

She will also meet members of the Irish community in Wellington, including the Hutt Valley Irish Society.

The second day of the week-long visit includes an address at a lunch hosted by Enterprise Ireland.

The president will then unveil a plaque at Frank Kitts Park Promenade to commemorate the contribution of Irish immigrants to Wellington and New Zealand.
