McAliskey bail appeal refused again

A LONDON magistrate has rejected another application for bail by Ms Roisin McAliskey on the grounds that she may abscond

A LONDON magistrate has rejected another application for bail by Ms Roisin McAliskey on the grounds that she may abscond. Defence claims that her prison conditions are the "worst possible circumstances for an ill woman" were ignored.

Ms McAliskey (25) is seven months pregnant and awaiting a court ruling over extradition to Germany in connection with an IRA bombing there. But the magistrate at Bow Street Magistrate's Court, Mrs Lorraine Morgan, remanded her to Holloway Prison until May 6th, two weeks before her baby is due.

Ms McAliskey's solicitor, Ms Gareth Peirce, told the court that "extraordinary" new evidence had recently been broadcast in Germany which proved Ms McAliskey had never been positively identified as being a member of the IRA gang, contradicting the German prosecutor's claims.

She said she had instructed German lawyers to investigate band challenge the warrant for Ms McAliskey's arrest.
