Oisin McConville proved Crossmaglen's saviour at Croke Park today when the Armagh forward pointed deep in injury-time to force a draw with Dr Crokes in the All-Ireland Club football final.
The Armagh champions went into the game as favourites and, indeed, led at half-time. But Dr Crokes summoned a superb second half showing that ensured a tense and impelling encounter at headquarters.
The first half failed to live up to its billing with both sides treading cautiously.
Crossmaglen led by a single score at the break on a 0-4 to 0-3 scoreline, but failed to push home their slender advantage thereafter.
That said, McConville actually found the net three minutes after the restart but immediately after, Dr Crokes retaliated when a swift move downfield culminated with Shane Doolin bagging a goal.
The strike inspired Dr Crokes - a side managed by new Kerry boss Pat O'Shea - and the Munster team kicked on and dominated during a crucial period which saw them emerge on top.
Colm 'Gooch' Cooper played in a deeper role than usual but was a threat throughout and orchestrated a number of scores as well as chipping in with a brace of his own.
Doolin also pointed, as did Kieran O'Leary and David Moloney and those points put Dr Crokes three points to the good by the 56th minute.
But credit Crossmaglen who rallied in the closing stages. John McEntee and McConville both pointed to leave just one between the sides before the latter levelled deep in added time.
The replay will be played at Portlaoise on April 1st (2.30pm).
