RACING: Tom George's Nacarat (10-1) ran out a hugely impressive winner of the Racing Post Chase at Kempton. Up with the pace throughout, the bold-jumping grey evoked memories of the great Desert Orchid, who won the race off top-weight in 1990.
He was 12lb higher after an easy win at Doncaster last time but after strolling home nine lengths in front of Possol, his days in handicaps are likely to be over.
Favourite Big Fella Thanks (7-2) found things happening too quickly and stayed on for third with Hold Em claiming fourth.
Winning jockey Tony McCoy was quick to salute George on his choice of tactics.
The 13-times champion said: “It was a good performance and in fairness to Tom he said to go out and make it. I was a little worried as he won over two miles and three at Doncaster and showed lots of pace.
“I was able to dictate the race after half a mile and run it like I wanted it to be run. The ground helped him get the trip and make it more of a speed race, which was more of a plus for us and against horses like Big Fella Thanks.”
