RACING:Tony McCoy's quest to secure the 3,000th jumps victory of his career was thwarted after Burton Port was turned over at Fontwell.

The 13-times champion jockey is still tantalisingly placed on the 2,998 mark.

McCoy appeared to have every chance of adding to his tally on the Nicky Henderson-trained five-year-old, who was sent off the 4-6 favourite in the EBF “Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre mrwc.org.uk ”National Hunt“ Novices’ Hurdle.

Although he travelled well for most of the way, Burton Port was found wanting in the straight and eventually weakened into third behind winner Tullamore Dew and Balnahinch.

McCoy’s only remaining ride on the card is Blue Teal in the Colin “Derby” Rose Memorial Handicap Hurdle.

The show rolls on to Southwell on Monday, when he is pencilled in for three rides.
