Louth TD Mr Brendan McGahon has confirmed he will remain in Fine Gael despite threatening to resign the party whip on Thursday night after his brother failed to win a party nomination for the Dail.
Thursday's Louth constituency selection convention chose Senator Fergus O'Dowd and Cllr Terry Brennan to run at the next general election. Mr McGahon announced at the convention he was standing down and called for support for his brother, Mr Johnny McGahon.
However Mr Johnny McGahon came third of the five who contested the convention. At the end of the convention, Mr McGahon said he was going to resign from the party.
