Kildare manager Kieran McGeeney has put an end to speculation over his future by confirming he is to stay with the Lilywhites until the end of next year’s campaign.

The Armagh man was appointed for a three-year term in September 2007 but the two-point All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tyrone at the weekend led some to believe he and his and his selectors, Paul Grimley and Niall Carew, may return to the Orchard County.

However, McGeeney has dismissed talk of his departure, at least, according to hoganstand.com, saying: "I said I'd stick at it for three years and if they want me next year, I'll be here for another one. I haven't been known to walk away from many things.

“Myself and Armagh had our talk two years ago and they told me what they told me - and what they told me was good enough for me.”
