Armagh's Kieran McGeeney will captain Ireland against Australia in the International Rules series which gets under way later this month.
Tadhg Kennelly, who plays Australian Rules football for the Sydney Swans, will act as McGeeney's vice-captain.
Manager Sean Boylan made the announcement in Croke Park this afternoon. He highlighted the player's experience at this level and said McGeeney was a "natural leader".
Boylan was due to finalise his 27-man squad today but will instead defer the selection until after this weekend's final trial.
The former Meath manager spent the weekend at a training camp in Toulouse with his preliminary 39-man panel, returning on Monday afternoon. The trip went "very well", he said.
Ireland host Australia in the first Test at Pearse Stadium in Galway on Saturday week. The game, which holds a 7.15 throw-in time, is sold out.
Croke Park stages the second game on November 5th (2pm) and tickets are available from the GAA's official website and Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.
