Soccer:Bohemians midfielder Gareth McGlynn had his two month reduced to one month following today's appeal in front of the FAI for breaching gambling rules by betting on soccer matches.

McGlynn and Colum O’Neill were both found to be in breach of the FAI’s Rule 100 for betting/gambling and had their appeals heard by the FAI Appeal Committee.

McGlynn’s ban was reduced to one month but a €500 fine still stands, while O’Neill’s two month ban from all soccer fixtures was reduced to one month. The suspensions begin with immediate effect.

McGlynn admitted to betting offences he committed while at Derry City, but he and his current club appealed against the severity of the sanction.

McGlynn acknowledged that he had placed bets on a small number of games, none of which involved City.

O’Neill, a member of City’s technical staff during McGlynn’s time there, who admitted a number of similar offences but who had also placed bets on games involving the club, originally received a ban of the same duration.
