Ballyhegan midfielder Paul McGrane has been named as the new Armagh senior football captain and will replace Kieran McGeeney, who has retired from inter county football with the Orchard County.
The new captaincy forms part of a much changed Armagh line up
ahead of the new 2008 campaign.
Manager Peter McDonnell has introduced players such as; Conor
Clarke, Barry Shannon, Brian McCone, Gerard McCoy, Gareth O'Neill,
Mark Quinn and Padraig Rodgers.
McDonnell is still without the Crossmaglen Rangers contingent to choose from as they are still involved with the All-Ireland club series. That means he is currently without star names such as Oisin McConville, Paul McConville and the Kernan brothers. However, a welcome boost sees the return of Ronan Clarke after he missed most of 2007 through injury.
McGrane, who made his championship debut as a 19-year-old in 1993 and is heading into his 16th year of inter county action, was the Armagh players' choice to captain the squad after the retired McGeeney stepped down.
