Vodafone GAA Player Awards: Tipperary's Shane McGrath and Derry's Fergal Doherty picked up the latest Vodafone GAA All Stars Player of the Month awards for April after their contributions to successful league campaigns
McGrath, who won the national hurling league with Tipperary, has been an emerging talent in recent seasons. The Ballinahinch club man was an All-Star nominee in 2006 and this year helped Tipperary to their first league title at senior level since 2001.
Doherty played an integral role for Derry as they won their sixth football league title last month and first since 2000.
After returning from injury in April the Bellaghy club man was on hand as Derry secured wins over Tyrone and Donegal to reach the league final. In the final his 33rd minute goal sparked Derry's revival as they went on to beat Kerry.
"The success enjoyed by Tipperary and Derry in the National Leagues could be the springboard for even greater achievements for the teams," said GAA President Nickey Brennan at the awards reception in the Westbury Hotel in Dublin.
"Shane and Fergal were outstanding in demanding roles and are deserving winners."
